Minneapolis, Minnesota — KARE 11 anchor Julie Nelson has shared an encouraging update with viewers and supporters, reporting that she is making progress in her recovery following a serious boating accident that has kept her off the air since June 15.

Nelson, 54, posted the update Monday on Facebook, offering her first public comments since the incident and expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received from family, friends, colleagues, and viewers throughout her recovery.

“I’m happy to report that I am getting better every week, but I do need a bit more time before I can fully return to work,” Nelson wrote. “As challenging as this process has been, the love and support from my family and friends, and so many of you, has lifted me up and encouraged me.”

The Accident

Nelson and her husband, Kurt Krumenauer, 55, were hospitalized following a crash on Balsam Lake at Pine Island in Wisconsin. According to an application for a search warrant filed by Ramsey County officials, an officer wrote that Nelson had sustained significant injuries including broken bones and deep lacerations that could leave lasting scars and affect her quality of life. Krumenauer reportedly suffered possible injuries to the back, head, and neck, along with lacerations.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No additional details regarding the investigation have been publicly released at this time.

Nelson’s Message to Viewers
