Randy D. Johnson Obituary, Bowling Green, Kentucky Death: Community Mourns Passing Of Beloved Resident

The Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Morgantown communities are mourning the passing of Randy D. Johnson, who died on July 17, 2026, at The Medical Center at Bowling Green at the age of 62. His passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving the loss of a man remembered for his generosity, hardworking spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he cared about.

Born on April 7, 1964, in Martinsville, Randy was the son of the late Harry Dale and Dissie M. (Tankersley) Johnson. Throughout his life, he built a reputation as a dependable and talented individual who took great pride in his work and always found ways to help those around him.

Randy worked as a self-employed construction worker and previously worked with Robert Young Construction in Greenwood. Known by many as a true “jack of all trades,” he had a remarkable ability to build, repair, and fix almost anything. His craftsmanship reflected not only his skills but also his patience, dedication, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed him.

Beyond his work, Randy was a man of many passions. He enjoyed music deeply, especially bluegrass, country, and rock, and found great joy in playing his guitar and sharing those moments with others. He also enjoyed playing cornhole, mushroom hunting, searching for great bargains, and cheering on his favorite teams, including the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana Pacers, and Indiana University basketball.

Those who knew Randy best will remember him most for his generous heart and caring nature. He was someone who always put others first, offering his time, talents, and support without hesitation. His kindness, humor, and ability to bring warmth to those around him made him a cherished presence in the lives of many.

Family was the center of Randy’s world. He treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones. He shared a beautiful bond with his family and found happiness in creating memories with them. He was also known for the special care and affection he showed toward his beloved parakeet, Duke.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his siblings Janet K. Johnson, Jerry D. Johnson, and Stanley J. Johnson.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sandra (McPeak) Johnson, whom he married on November 27, 1985, in Martinsville. He is also survived by his children, Anthony Dale Johnson, Anna (Tyler Berty) Johnson, and Christy (Jeff Stinson) Johnson; his grandchildren, Gabrielle Swegman, Kaleb Herndon, Victoria Swegman, William Swegman, Shalyn Swegman, Zoey Berty, Sonny Stinson, and Maggie Stinson; his siblings, Wm. Lynn Johnson, Harry L. Johnson, Phyllis Scott, Mark Johnson, Patricia Griffith, Pamela (Dan) Lindstrom, and Penny (Randy) Kelp; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will continue to honor his memory.

A funeral service to celebrate Randy’s life will be held on Friday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown, with Pastor Vern Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects during visitation on Thursday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions in Randy’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Although Randy Johnson’s life ended too soon, the legacy he leaves behind will continue through the family he loved, the friendships he built, the work he was proud of, and the countless lives he touched through his kindness and generosity.
