The Jonesboro community is mourning the loss of Willow S. Searcy, 20, who died in a motorcycle crash on June 1 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The collision also claimed the life of the motorcycle’s operator, Thomas J. Haney, 28, of Jonesboro. According to the Arkansas State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Flint Street and Nettleton Avenue. Investigators reported that a 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling eastbound on Nettleton Avenue entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and collided with a 2023 Chrysler traveling north on Flint Street. Authorities said Haney, who was operating the motorcycle, and Searcy, who was riding as a passenger, were thrown from the vehicle. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler was not publicly identified. The Jonesboro Police Department later stated that an officer had briefly attempted to stop the motorcycle for alleged traffic violations shortly before the collision. According to police, the officer ended the attempted stop after the motorcycle fled, and emergency dispatchers began receiving reports of the crash moments later. Investigators reviewing traffic camera footage concluded that the motorcycle entered the intersection on a red light before colliding with the Chrysler. The incident remains under investigation. In the aftermath of the tragedy, family members and friends remembered Searcy as a kind and compassionate young woman whose presence positively affected those around her. Obituary notices also indicated that she and Haney were engaged and expecting a child, adding to the profound grief experienced by their loved ones. As the Jonesboro community continues to mourn, many have extended condolences and support to Searcy’s family. Her death serves as a reminder of the importance of traffic safety and the potentially devastating consequences of unsafe driving. She will be remembered for the love she shared, the relationships she built, and the lasting memories she leaves behind.
